8/21/11 | Whelan galleries and the Cottage Gallery in Laguna beach hosted a "night of 100 Angels' juried competition. My entry was accepted and last night was the opening. The artwork was diverse and some was captivating. If you are going to see the show, be sure to look at it ALL. Since the gallery spaces were limited, some of the work is tucked away in offices or in the far back of the gallery. Be sure you get around and see it all since there is some interesting stuff. Was honored to be accepted in to the show. This was the first year that they had the show. It was in partnership for the 'Make a Wish Foundation'. It will surely be larger every year.

5/21/11Despite rainy and cold weather, the group was flexible and had a great time. Even though they had to paint indoors, they each painted a sunrise and sunset and learned about temperature changes and values. We stayed at the Quiet Creek Inn, a great place to paint or just to get away.
The students also were able to go around and see some of the great spots to paint and get ready for the plein air competition to be up in Idyllwild, June 11-12. If you are interested in participating in the competition or get on my list for future workshops, email me through my website's contact page.

5/1/11 | Only a few spaces left for my two day plein air workshop in Idyllwild, 'from dusk till dawn' Idyllwild is a great place to paint. We'll be setting up and painting in evening light, have a catered dinner and then picking the brushes back up at dawn, literally and painting around the quiet creek inn. This is also where we will be staying. need just a couple more participants to fill up the workshop. email me at rich@stergulzart.com for details and pricing.

2/27/11 | This one day workshop focuses on getting in touch with your inner child and letting them paint. It's about getting out of your own way and painting. A large still life is set up. Richard will do a demo to show how to concentrate on large shapes to get started. Libations, lunch and a canvas board are included in the $50 fee. Class Size is limited so email rich@stergulzart.com for information or to register.

12/12/10 | Starting a portrait can seem intimidating. so much blank canvas, it can make you hesitate to take that first stroke. Oils being so forgiving, you can always go back and do over initial things done that you may not like later on. take a look at the little video here to get a glimpse in to the first stages of a portrait. if you like it, sign up in my guestbook to be kept informed on when my instructional video will be coming out.

11/9/10 | Falkner Winery had a plein air event hosted by Segil Fine Art. www.segilfineart.com
My piece 'wine maker' was selected as the winner of the 'dry pieces' that were brought in my the participating artists. All the artists went out in to the vineyard and painted. It was a perfect day. Just before the reception, the marine layer came in and brought with it the chilly weather. Would like to thank Segil Fine Art and Falkner winery for a great event. Happy Painting!
